"I did what I could." A series of interviews with prof. Zbigniew Kruszewski
- Details
We warmly invite you to read the book I did what I could, which is a collection of interviews with prof. Zbigniew Kruszewski - a member of the Presidium of the Council of Scientific Societies and its Chairman in 2007-2019.
About the book:
I did what I could is the title of a book containing a collection of thoughts by prof. Zbigniew Kruszewski, president of the Scientific Society of Płock, rector of the University of Paweł Włodkowic in Płock, chairman of the Council of Scientific Societies at the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences in 2007-2019, senator of the Republic of Poland of the 4th and 5th term, and a member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland of the 6th term.
As Jan Bolesław Nycek, editor of the publication, writes, it is an attempt to “show a man of equal merit to his hometown [Płock], as well as his closer and more distant surroundings. It is a story about a traveled path, leaving one's own mark on the ground, about a place and space, about the passing of life”.
Reflections by prof. Z. Kruszewski concern, inter alia, social scientific movement, education, science and higher education, and public service.
The occasion for the series of interviews was the 70th birthday of prof. Z. Kruszewski. The title of the book refers to the words spoken by the consuls of the Roman Republic during the handover of the office to his successors: "I have done what I could, whoever can, let him do better".

The Polish Political Science Association position on the so-called "Predatory journals"
- Details
Out of concern for the continuous improvement of the quality of research and scientific publications carried out by representatives of the discipline of politics and administration and related disciplines, we would like to draw your attention to the phenomenon known as "predatory science", which is related with the functioning of predatory journals and predatory publishers.
We find it very disturbing that the titles of journals and the names of publishers suspected of predatory practices can be found in the most important databases used not only by the scientific institutions, but also by the government administration bodies. On their basis, the quality of the research work of a university, a specific discipline and individual scientists is assessed.

Report on the second edition of the conference "Communication in science. Communication of knowledge. The role of scientific societies"
- Details
On December 10, 2021, the second part of the conference "Communication in science. Communication of knowledge. The role of scientific societies” was held. Four speakers and 26 participants took part in the event.
During the first panel, the participants of the videoconference listened to the speeches of professor Diana Pietruch-Reizes and professor Paweł Nowak.
Professor Pieruch-Reizes gave a lecture entitled "Code of interdisciplinarity in information science". During it, she referred to such issues as the complexity of scientific discourse, the semantic relatedness of interdisciplinarity and creativity, as well as the long-term benefits of collaboration between scientists representing various fields. The professor noticed that the division into classical science and humanities is not so clear today. For years, we have been observing the progressive integration of the scientific community. Therefore, interdisciplinarity is no longer perceived as a fleeting fashion, but it is starting to be a real, though difficult to develop, necessity.
